FATE is a captivating RPG game that takes players on a thrilling adventure filled with fantasy elements. Developed by WildTangent for PC, this single-player action role-playing game is known as a dungeon crawler, where players navigate their character through challenging levels of a dungeon, battling monsters, completing quests, collecting valuable items and gold, and enhancing their character's abilities along the way.
The dungeon in FATE features a randomized layout for each level, with treasures and monsters also being randomized. The game is fully rendered in 3D, allowing players to zoom in and out of the action as needed. However, the camera cannot be rotated, although players can press CTRL+SHIFT+U to open the camera. Holding the arrow keys left or right enables players to peek around corners.
Accompanying the player is a pet, which can be initially chosen as a dog or a cat. This pet fights on behalf of the player, can carry items, and can be sent back to town to sell unwanted loot. If the pet's health points are depleted, it will not die but rather escape from the battle. The pet will continue to follow the character but won't engage in combat until it recovers.
As the character gains experience points, they level up and receive attribute and skill points. Increasing attributes such as strength, dexterity, vitality, and magic allows the character to wield stronger weapons, armor, and magical spells. Skills, on the other hand, indicate proficiency in specific areas such as sword skills, charm magic skills, critical strike skills, and more.
FATE offers maximum customization as there are no set character classes. Players are rewarded with fame points for completing side quests and defeating major enemies, which contribute to their level of fame. Increasing fame levels grants skill points and unlocks the use of elite and legendary items.
Weapons, shields, and accessories in FATE have sockets where players can place special gems to customize their items. Sockets do not impose higher requirements for item usage but increase their value. Additionally, players can pay a singer in Grove to increase their character's fame, allowing them to purchase skill points.
While FATE may not be the most innovative game, it boasts visually appealing fully 3D environments with well-lit and vibrant caves and tombs. Some of the monsters are impressively large, providing a satisfying experience when defeating them. The game runs smoothly on modest systems and includes functional and attractive graphics.
Overall, FATE is a fun-filled RPG game that offers a classic dungeon crawling experience with its own unique twists and customization options.
